How the 12 Axes Quiz Calculates Results
How answers are turned into percentages, ideology matches, country matches and personality matches.
12 Axes is a multi-axis political values test. After you rate a series of statements, the system produces percentages on twelve independent dimensions and then matches your profile against catalogs of ideologies, countries/regimes and political figures.
Scoring the Axes
Each statement is linked to one or more poles. Your response on the five-point scale (strongly agree → strongly disagree) adds weight to the corresponding pole. The final score on each axis is expressed as a percentage toward one pole or the other. Longer versions of the quiz (more questions per axis) generally produce more stable percentages.
Matching
Once the twelve percentages are calculated, the test compares your overall vector with pre-defined profiles:
- Political ideologies (hundreds of entries in some implementations)
- Countries and historical regimes
- Political figures / personalities
The closest matches are returned together with a compatibility percentage. Some versions also place you on a broad left–center–right and radical spectrum.
Where the Calculation Happens
On the main public deployments the calculation runs in the browser. No account is required and answers are not stored as a personal profile on the server. Session storage may keep progress if you reload the page, but closing the tab or clearing storage removes it.
Because some implementations publish their code (for example the GitHub repository linked from 12axes.vercel.app), the scoring logic and data files can be inspected directly. For the live test and the current question banks, use the official project sites linked from the homepage.
